The man accused in a Pelham church shooting in 2019 has requested the judge in his case to recuse herself and accused her of being a racist. The man accused represented himself on Monday in a video hearing after firing his defense team last year.The man accused, Dale Holloway, repeatedly called the judge, Honorable Diane Nicolosi, a racist while demanding she remove herself from the case. He told the court he should be released on bail because he cannot prepare for his defense under the confines of the jail.“I’m expecting you to protect me your honor, I’m expecting you to abide by the laws as well as the state,” Holloway said. “Then I want you to recuse yourself your honor because you’re not being fair.”Nicolosi defended herself saying, “The fact that you disagree with my order doesn’t mean that I should recuse myself. My conclusion is that you should be detained pending trial.”After allegedly opening fire at a wedding in Pelham in 2019, shooting the bishop and bride, authorities said Holloway viciously attacked his public defender inside the Valley Street Jail. Holloway has denied the attack.Holloway told the court he contracted COVID-19 in jail and that has compromised his mental function and should be remanded to a psychiatric hospital. The judge refused.The judge offered supplemental counsel to Holloway, he accepted. The trial is scheduled to begin in June.
